Workshop: The Line
My workshop with Professor John Malinoski is dauntingly simple: take a site somewhere in Richmond, VA and respond to it by making typographic/graphic “clothing.”
My site is an overflow parking lot behind the Virginia Holocaust Museum. I drive by the site every day and something about its long, barren expanse has intrigued me ever since I got to Richmond. This is the site highlighted in red:
The most interesting part of the site is that part of the James River flood wall borders its north side. The concrete wall has few details, but it does have something wonderful: a strong horizontal expansion line running its entire length:
It is this line that I am basing my initial visual ideation around.
